The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on Wednesday fixed May 17 to 31

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB)
on Wednesday fixed May 17 to 31 for the conduct of
2014 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination
(UTME) through Computer Based Test (CBT).
This is contained in a statement signed by Mr Fabian
Gabriel, the Head of Public Relations of the board,
and issued to newsmen in Abuja.
According to the statement, the CBT will take place
in over 163 centres in Nigeria and abroad, saying the
date was sacrosanct.
It, however, urged the candidates to reprint their e-
slip in the event they missed or misplaced their
schedules.
“Over 616,000 candidates are expected to sit for the
examination with over 250 prisoners in Kaduna and
Ikoyi prisons,” it added.
It added that the board was determined to go full-
blown with CBT in 2015 UTME, owing to success
recorded in 2013 and the quests to sanitise the
education

A student of Abia State Polytechnic, Aba, was
reported to have been killed by unknown
gunmen at the weekend in Umungasi, Abia
State.
According to residents of the community where the
incident happened, the unknown gunmen, who shot
the deceased, are believed to be cultists.
Investigations carried out by The Daily Sun revealed
that the student, whose name could not be
ascertained as at press time, was said to be a native
of Ndume Ibeku in Umuahia North Local Government
Area of the state.
* A student of Abia State Polytechnic was
reportedly killed by unknown gunmen
It was learnt that the student was shot dead by a
group of boys who accosted him on his way back from
school on the fateful day.
After killing him, the assailants were said to have fled
from the scene immediately.
The student was said to have been immediately
rushed to the Abia State Teaching Hospital (ABSUTH),
Aba by some students who got to the scene of the
incidents moments later but the deceased was con
firmed dead and the body, deposited at the hospital's
mortuary.
The motive of the hoodlums could not be ascertained
but there were beliefs in some quarters that it could
be the handiwork of cultists
Mr. Geoffrey Ogbonna, the Police Public Relations Offi
cer in the state, when contacted confirmed the
incident, adding that they are making effort to ensure
that those behind the act are brought to face the
music.
This latest incident is occurring just few weeks after a
worker from the same polytechnic was murdered near
his father's house.
